In October 2026, Tosa Mahoroba Tourism arranged a full-day private excursion departing from and returning to Kochi New Port. The journey combined a sightseeing boat ride through Oboke Gorge, visits to the Iya Valley, and time at Kochi Castle and Katsurahama.

Here is a look back at the places we visited along the way, illustrated with scenery from the trip.

Our Itinerary for the Day

• 08:45 — Depart from Kochi New Port
• 10:20–11:20 — Oboke Gorge sightseeing boat experience, including ticket purchase and photo time
• 11:40–12:30 — Iya Vine Bridge and Biwa Waterfall area, with a break and light refreshments
• 13:00–13:35 — Scenic stops at the Peeing Boy Statue, Iya Valley viewpoints and Hinoji Valley Viewpoint
• 15:00–16:00 — Kochi Castle
• 16:30–17:10 — Katsurahama
• 17:30 — Return to Kochi New Port

This is a record of the itinerary operated on this occasion, rather than a fixed schedule for every cruise call. The route involved a full day ashore and substantial driving between Kochi and the Oboke–Iya area.

Oboke Gorge: Views from the River

Our first sightseeing stop was Oboke Gorge, where the boat ride offered a different perspective on the river and surrounding rock formations.

Time here included purchasing tickets, boarding the sightseeing boat and taking photographs. It was an opportunity to enjoy the valley scenery from the water before continuing towards Iya.

Iya Vine Bridge & Biwa Waterfall

The next stop took us to the Iya Vine Bridge and nearby Biwa Waterfall area.

The bridge, river and surrounding greenery provided a striking change of scenery from the port. This part of the day also included a break and time for light refreshments.

For anyone considering a similar visit, walking requirements and comfort with heights are useful points to discuss when planning the itinerary.

Scenic Stops in the Iya Valley

We continued to viewpoints in the Iya Valley, including the Peeing Boy Statue and Hinoji Valley Viewpoint.

These stops offered opportunities to pause, take photographs and appreciate the river winding through the mountains. The journey between the viewpoints was also part of the experience, revealing more of the valley landscape along the way.

Kochi Castle: From Mountain Scenery to Local History

Returning to Kochi City, we visited Kochi Castle.

After the river and valley scenery earlier in the day, the castle brought a different aspect of the region into focus: its history and architecture.

When arranging a visit, we discuss which areas guests would like to explore and consider walking and stair requirements.

Katsurahama: Ending the Day by the Ocean

Our final sightseeing stop was Katsurahama, before returning to Kochi New Port.

The Pacific Ocean views provided a coastal contrast to the mountain landscapes of Oboke and Iya—a fitting final scene for this particular journey.
